CCMB Alumni Meet 2023: Bringing Decades of Knowledge Together

Published on 13 April 2023 at 17:08

CCMB, established in 1977, has produced numerous talented individuals who have made significant contributions to scientific breakthroughs across various fields. However, the institute's legacy is carried on by its alumni, who are currently placed across multiple countries, disciplines, and companies, both in academia and non-academic research.

On February 21st, 2023, CCMB held its first-ever Alumni Meeting which brought together over 70 alumni from across the globe. The event featured two panel discussions with current researchers at the institute - one on the academic career track and the other on the non-academic career track. The panel discussions, moderated by recent alumni Renu Sudhakar and Santosh Kuncha, included CCMB alumni who have excelled in their respective fields.

During the event, current researchers at CCMB engaged with the alumni, discussing various aspects such as skill requirements for different professions and the challenges of transitioning from student life to a professional setting. A major topic of discussion was finding a suitable mentor and the criteria for choosing one. A few alumni volunteered to be mentors for upcoming scientists, which was one of the key objectives of the meeting.

The evening included delicious Indian food, great scientific discussions with current faculty members, and opportunities for alumni to connect with each other and share their experiences. The success of the event prompted the Director of CCMB to establish the CCMB Alumni Association and a CCMB Alumni Portal to bridge the gap between alumni and young researchers. The organizing committee, spearheaded by Suresh Chintalapati , included current students Annapoorna PK and Priyanka Pant , as well as alumni Chandra Shekhar , Renu Sudhakar , Santosh Kuncha , and Nikhil Hajirnis .

The event provided an excellent opportunity for alumni to connect with each other, share their experiences and knowledge, and build a stronger community. The establishment of the CCMB Alumni Association and Portal will further strengthen these bonds and promote collaboration between alumni and current researchers. It is a testament to CCMB's continued commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a sense of community among its alumni.
