Santosh Kumar Kuncha, PhD

I am a highly trained Structural Cell and Molecular Biologist with a passion for unlocking the secrets of life through experimental work in the lab. My academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree from Loyola Academy in Hyderabad, India, followed by a Master's from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University of Hyderabad. I then pursued my PhD at the prestigious Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) under the guidance of Dr. Rajan Sankaranarayanan, where I specialized in the complex processes of protein synthesis and translation. I am currently an EMBO postdoctoral scientist at Goethe University in Prof. Ivan Dikic Laboratory and exploring the quality control of macromolecules which orchestra Autophagy (self-eating of cell).

In addition to my research, I have played a key role in establishing the CCMB Students' Council (CSC), which has become an integral part of the institute. Through the CSC, I have initiated programs that support and improve the graduate student experience, including the Outreach Program for graduate students and the HySci conference. HySci is the first student-centric conference in Hyderabad and has grown to become an annual event that brings together almost 250 researchers from 20 institutes across the city.

Through my involvement in these initiatives, I aim to inspire and empower the next generation of scientists while fostering a supportive and inclusive research community. I am driven by my passion for science and my desire to make meaningful contributions to the scientific community by pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge.
